About us

A safe haven for spaniel owners and spaniels in need.

Spaniel Rescue Foundation was founded in 2023 and covers England, Wales and Scotland.

We are a rescue run entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to supporting owners and dogs in crisis.

The charity is managed by a team of trustees who ensure everything is working for the best interests of the dogs in our care and that everyone who comes in contact with the charity receives the compassionate, caring and supportive service they deserve. All trustees are also volunteers.

All of our administration team volunteers have the option to become voting members. This means they have a say in how the charity develops and grows. It is a real team effort.

We are committed to supporting owners through difficult times, providing resources, advice, and information on alternatives to surrender. We are proud to work with a team of 40 canine professionals, made up of behaviourists, trainers, vets, vet nurses, groomers, walkers, dieticians and physios all volunteering time to provide support to owners in crisis.

We are also dedicated to developing a comprehensive library of resources for the general public to help spaniel owners from puppyhood to old age with the goal of reducing problem behaviours and health issues in spaniels and spaniel crossbreeds. We hope this will reduce the pressure on specialist spaniel rescues in the future.

When owners are not able to keep their beloved spaniel, we will ensure that both owners and dogs experience a compassionate rehome process through our rehome arm of the foundation. We don't have kennels so all dogs rehomed through us will go into foster homes until their forever home can be found.

All fosterers supporting the charity will be taken on a development and education programme to ensure they have all the skills needed to help the dogs that are surrendered to the charity. Our fosterers are essential to the running of our charity and therefore we believe strongly in investing in and supporting them so they can be the best they can be.

We know dogs need to be rehomed for a number of reasons, e.g. owner's ill health, dog behaviour issues, financial constraints, housing issues, marriage breakdowns, loss of owners or even just abandoned and unclaimed. Whatever the reason rehoming is a difficult and emotional time and we ensure all of our administration volunteers receive active listening and call handling training so they can give owners the support they need during their time of crisis.

We are also happy to provide owners with updates, photos and stories while their dog is with us in foster so they know how they are adjusting, developing and when they have found their new home.
